So let's call to order the September 23rd public utilities board meeting for the city of Denton. We have a brief agenda today Consent items a B and C Does any board member wish to pull one of the items? I have a question on B and B. Okay, and I have a question on C How about item a do we have a motion to approve Second all in favor say aye. Aye motion carries. Okay. I am B This is the question I had was those the of all the tasks that are enumerated here on this list There's a city of Denton engineering staff ever do those tasks No mostly because of capacity within the Not that they don't have the the ability and the training to do that because of the capacity and the work that they're currently working on now There's no free free time to be able to do that And since it's already been pulled I just had a question is out of 750 solicitations for bids you only had 14 responses. Is that typical actually only at we had 15 responses and one actually removed their Submission prior to today. So it's not atypical Wow, okay. Yeah, I Mean They don't want the work. Well, I'll give you an explanation what a lot of times happens is Businesses want to do business with the city and so they'll sign up to be notified of all solicitations, so it may be Carmen it could be anybody and so So when these go out, it'll go out to hundreds, but it may not be anywhere near in the business in which they do. So a Lot of times they're just not responsive because it's not in there But they just want to be notified of any and all good solicitations at the city And it's an electronic bidding system. It's electronic. So it's just goes to spam. Oh, okay. Yeah All right Do we have a motion to approve item B I move Second all in favor say aye. I just wanted if you could review The total feet that are involved and how that compares to just putting in a new sewer line Okay. Good evening board members Kenny bangs general manager of utilities the the overall Believe where we were at about 1800 square feet it was the bulk of the entirety of the project would be done by pipe bursting and then there was a small segment that was there towards the generally aligned with the The alignment of the access road for i-35 where that piece that was pipe burst will actually connect with a 15 go across that area and then Link up with another 15 that we have over near the tech stop property. That's right there beside i-35 So does that answer your question or well? I mean, I guess the second part so you're talking about 1800 ish Lineal fee that's correct. Okay, and how does that compare in cost to simply laying new sewer pipe? It's it tends to be quite a bit cheaper because you're not having to unearth it And so there's two two issues that are involved there one is the physical disturbance of having to actually unearth the old pipe Physically remove that pipe and then put new pipe in place Particularly with this area that that would be a pretty tall task. It goes by a hospital a drainage ditch There's a lot of pavement that's over Areas there. We've got a few small buildings that have been built in the easement So from a practical standpoint, it would be difficult to do it with a standard just unearthing and then bedding the pipe Secondly, it tends to be cheaper just because you don't have all of the equipment mobilization Excavators things of that nature that you need to actually Expose the pipe and then pull it out of the ground The way this process works is it's simply got a large device that goes into the pipe that is designed to Basically put pressure on the pipe. It has a large air compressor that acts almost like it For lack of a better word like an impact wrench and it basically will will break the pipe as it goes through It's guided by a cable We work manhole to manhole and then basically they pull the larger piece of pipe in behind it So it's it's pretty much an in situ Replacement you do have to on occasion Expose an area near the manholes just simply to give you access to be able to get the cable out But other than that, it's it's pretty non-invasive. So Generally, you're going to find that it's going to be much cheaper Particularly in a situation like this where you have a lot of pavement over the easement Thank you. Sure. These are fairly minor, but it's in reading this I hesitated to even bring it up and I thought no I need to correct this because Someone would would read that as it's written and say what idiot asked that question The first item is pub 19 - 165 when we're talking about the The dewatering equipment for the sludge The question I ask this is attributed to me is if there were acceptance criteria for the engineering of that new facility and it got translated as Reception of criteria Yes, so that was I can give you the exact wording here. Yeah, and The answer we got was yes, there is acceptance criteria for the third put acceptance. Yes And also for the desired moisture content that you want to end up with That was one thing and then on page four the top of page four the first line I Asked if there was a process for noting the actual location of buried lines on existing drawings Whenever a project is executed that involved digging in an area known to have buried utility lines that got translated as Asking asking how to identify utility drawings. Oh, yes And it's not quite the same so we can make those changes. Yeah. All right Then Do we need a motion to approve with those changes? Yes, make it fast You already blew my record Just a few things to report We will be coming next month to bring you some information about the energy center just updates on that along with a multifamily recycling One of the things that's coming in towards the end of October October 23rd, and I believe can make it if she hasn't already She will be reaching out to board members of the pub to see if you're interested in you doing any facility tours orientation So if she's done that that'd be great and love to have you all out come out to see our facilities and give a quick Orientation of kind of what all we do with your utilities and so October 23rd is that time and if there's some for some reason that we you all can do that Well, we can find off an alternative date too as well if we need to just wanted to pass that information on I have nothing else to report Which brings us to concluding items.
