Thank you. 2021 The time is 5 58 PM. We have a quorum, so I'd like to call this meeting to order and the first item of business is the pledge to both the U. S. And the Texas flag. I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America and to the Republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible with liberty and justice for all. One state under God, one indivisible. The second item is to consider the approval of the minutes from May 24th. I guess I just had a quick question. This is only because this particular case was two meetings and we met like six months ago and I only see the meetings from the 24th. Was there a reason that we didn't get the other minutes? I it's been a while and I believe that it may have been considered at the second meeting where we had the meeting minutes and I could be wrong. But if the board would like to hold off on on considering the minutes until we get the other minutes to clarify that we can do that as well. So I don't think we I don't know. Did we already approve these minutes because this last this looks like this is the minutes from the very part one. Was it okay? Okay. Yeah, because line 14 on the second page said board members stated they will deliberate and vote on the item in the next scheduled meeting. That's really where the good stuff happens. So I'm kind of wondering where those where those minutes were. Gotcha. So since obviously there is the second meeting, we need to make sure those minutes are also considered. So if you want to you want to approve this, we can or if you want to wait till you get the second meeting, which I don't think this has any relationship, but that second meeting minutes will be at our next board meeting. Okay. Yes. Which is fine, but we meet rather infrequently. Correct. I do apologize. I just don't recall. I don't remember one if we we we should have it in the back up for this meeting. Yeah. Agreed. But I I don't see any issues with these minutes. Are there any corrections or questions about these minutes from the May 24th 2021? So actually, I wanted to mention so thank you for your motion. But I remember from the Robert's Rules of Orders video that we watch that if there is no questions or corrections, we can just move we can be passed by unanimous consent. So are there any are there any changes or concerns? So seeing no questions or concerns, we're going to approve the minutes by unanimous consents. Okay. Yeah. Cool. Thanks. Sounds good. All right. Moving on. I learned a thing. Okay. The next part is to hold a discussion and provide clarification regarding Robert's Rules of Orders. So we all saw the we should have received that link that Ron had sent out in our email to watch that presentation from a few years back. So we watched it and I learned a thing just now and now we have a presentation. So go ahead. So just again, one the opportunity if you had any clarification or further questions on the Robert's Rule, we want to be able to answer them as part of the agenda. If not, you know, we can move on to the next item. But the idea was for you to watch the presentation. And then obviously, it's a long presentation. So we just wanted to make sure that you can watch it on time that you have. And then I know there's some members that have already seen it. So kind of save people, you know, that that, you know, time to watch it. So does anybody have any questions on the Robert's Rule presentation? And again, we don't meet us frequently. But those are the rules that we need to follow when when proceeding with some other items that we will be looking or hearing in the near future. I just want to make a comment that one of the things that I I know that I'm guilty of is starting deliberation or Yeah, starting deliberation before a motion has been made. And I thought that the parliamentarian who made that presentation made a good point. It's like, we don't quite know what we're debating until a motion has been made in the first place. And so I know I'm guilty of that. And I I know many we all we're all smart individuals. Otherwise, we wouldn't be here. Right. So we all have big ideas and thoughts on this stuff, too. So I'm going to try and do a better job as a chair of like waiting for us to debate until we actually have a motion. So hold me accountable to that, because I think it is going to speed up the meetings, too, and just make it make us a more effective body because we know exactly what it is we're debating. But that was the thing I wrote down. Okay. Yeah, that's great. I do have a question then. Oftentimes in Robert's Rules meetings, Robert's Rules led meetings, there will be discussion point a motion to continue a discussion point or to hold a discussion before make before motions are entertained. So should someone wish to do that regarding an issue and not, you know, where there may be a greater desire to discuss it in full before entertaining a motion that's just privilege, I suppose. I actually might be able to help with that. My name is Hillary. I'm with the city attorney's office. Great. So what that's going to relate to is making sure that our discussions are also focused on what is posted on the agenda. Right. So we might have a setback variance that before us to consider, and we need to keep our discussion focused to that variance. While we may want to be discussing the policy implications of reducing the setback for the whole city, that that is a little bit beyond the scope of what we're seeking to discuss. So we would want to be focused on the case that issued in our discussions. Did that answer the question? Yes. Excellent. You know, I just just add to that. I think what you're also, I think, alluding to is, you know, Amber touched on it a little bit. You know, the presentation usually comes, you know, there is a presentation with the cases and then you as the board have the opportunity to ask questions of staff and of the applicant. And then, of course, the motion, as you know, the chair mentioned, should come next and then discussion after. So then you can discuss amongst yourself. And so that's usually the process. Right. So there's room for discussion of the presentation, then motion, then debate, then debate. Yes. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Very cool. Cool. Thank you. Yeah. Yeah. I'm here for the other item. If you. Oh, also, okay. As long as you're there. The next item then is to talk about the calendar receiver report and hold a discussion regarding the 2022 Zoning Board of Adjustment meeting schedule. So, yeah, so I wanted to pull this up. I know you don't have it. Maybe have seen it on in the backup when you guys first look when you first got the agenda and back up. But I'm going to share it on the screen. And I apologize if it's hard to see. Essentially, what we're proposing is having the Zoning Board of Adjustments are typically on the last Monday of each month. And you can see they pretty much follow that unless there's a holiday. So I believe May has a holiday. And I'm scrolling down as I'm looking at this. And we have November with questions. So we want to ask the board, what's your preference? Do you want it after Thanksgiving or before Thanksgiving? Hopefully, you know, it could be even a week before Thanksgiving. And then, of course, we have the Christmas holiday or on December. The Monday is usually that it's for it's closed for Christmas Eve and Christmas Day because Christmas on a Sunday. But really, your thoughts on the dates and then for November, what are your preference? And then we can, you know, what we would like to get is direction from the board. And then we can we can make sure that we implement these dates moving forward. Okay, go ahead. Okay, my question is for two things. The October meeting is currently scheduled for the 31st, which would actually be the fifth Monday, which is the last Monday of the month. But it's Halloween. Yes, that's true. That is so we might want to consider moving that and quite frankly, the 28th of November is fine. I don't know if schools because I don't have any school age children, but if schools are out for that whole week and people take that whole week off. So it might be best to keep it on the 28th. Right. I was gonna say, yeah, the typically schools are out the week of Thanksgiving. So the 21st, you know, families may be traveling. Agreed with Halloween. My kids are only little for another minute. Yeah, so that's a great opportunity. I'm gonna just say I cannot make the October 31st meeting. And then regarding Christmas, typically school is out. Isn't it out usually that week of the 18th as well. So again, that may be difficult for people who travel out of town. We may consider I would I would I would request meeting if we did meet in December to meet on the 12th, which I know is only two weeks between the 28th and the 12th. But then that way we could still that's fine. I mean, we still want to give options. And so again, these meeting dates are what we will shoot for. However, you know, there be some instances where if there is a need for a special call, we just need to meet the posting requirements of 72 hours. But these are the target dates that we would like to have direction on. Yeah, I was just gonna say for the last couple of years, we've moved to the November meeting early, even though it was posted later. So just so that people know that's likely. So yeah, we can move the November to the 14th. And then the December to the 12th. So that I don't know if that would conflict with some of the HLC. But HLC is meeting right now. So it just depends on, you know, where are they meet? But we can certainly accommodate since we have that option. Yeah. And Jennifer, that might make more sense too. If we do move October up one week, yes, three weeks later, and then four weeks later, instead of perfect. So October 24, November 14, December 12. Does that work for the board? Okay. Cool. All right. All right. So that's the direction we will amend the calendar, and then send that out to the whole board. And then start, you know, on that. As far as the meeting next month, we will keep you posted. Right now we do not have one confirmed. But we definitely have another potential meeting in December. But again, at this moment, we don't have anything scheduled. Okay. Great. Thank you. And one interesting thing about me is I was born in Fargo and I don't think I've met any other person on the planet who was born in Fargo, but I'm sure there are people who are born there every day. I guess something interesting about me is we have been in Denton for a little over two years now. And in the three years before that, we lived in 10 different cities across the United States. So we bounced around a lot, but we bought our first home and are making Denton kind of our place to settle for a while. So I'm excited to help you guys shape the development as it goes forward. So if you were three years, I'm like three or two and three quarters or something. And I started off as an alternate. And Keely appointed me and then Connie Baker and now Brian. So I just keep staying in it because apparently nobody is on this board. But look, we've got some wonderful new faces. Interesting thing about me, this is the second time I've lived in Denton. I've been here since 2008 this time. And I went to grad school here in the nineties. And then before that I lived in Fort Worth. So we used to come up to Denton all the time. Denton's a great town.
