I made my way over to the Development Services Center at 401 N. Elm Street to check things out, and I'm glad I did. It was a productive session, and I'd love to walk you through how it went.
The meeting kicked off right at 3:00 PM on Monday, August 10, 2026. We gathered in Training Rooms 3, 4, and 5, and the first order of business was confirming that a quorum was present. Once that was settled, the committee was ready to dive in.
We started with Item A (DCRC26-053), which focused on electing a Chair and Vice-Chair for the Development Code Review Committee. It's always a key moment to see leadership roles established to keep the group moving forward. The agenda included Exhibit 1, an info sheet that laid out the details for this election.
Next up was Item B (DCRC26-064). This was the essential housekeeping step: considering the approval of the minutes from the June 22, 2026 meeting. It's that important checkpoint where the committee makes sure the record from last time is accurate before charging ahead with new business.
The discussion really got going with Item C (DCRC26-063). The committee received a report and held a discussion regarding prioritizing future potential amendments to the Denton Development Code. They also provided direction to staff on this matter. It was interesting to see the committee thinking strategically about how the code can be updated and prioritized to support the city's needs going forward. Like the first item, this one came with Exhibit 1 for reference.
As we wound down, we moved into the Concluding Items. This section opened the floor for responses to public inquiries under Section 551.042 of the Texas Open Meetings Act, allowing for specific factual information or recitation of policy. The committee also addressed reports on items of community interest per Section 551.0415, which can cover things like expressions of thanks, holiday schedules, community event announcements, or other updates where no formal action is taken. It's a great way to keep the community loop closed.
