I actually made the drive downtown at 8:30 AM, notebook ready, all set to hear what the committee had on the docket. But when I pulled up to the Development Service Center at 401 N. Elm Street, the usual pre-meeting buzz was completely missing. Training Rooms 1 and 2 were quiet, the hallway was empty, and it quickly became clear I wasn’t the only one who’d caught wind that the session had been called off.
I walked over to the bulletin board just like the official paperwork noted, and there it was: a neatly posted Cancellation Notice. I took a few minutes to read through it, and it was pretty straightforward. The notice confirmed the meeting was officially cancelled, and mentioned it had been posted back on July 27, 2026, both on the City of Denton’s official meeting website (that CivicPlus link they use) and right here at City Hall on McKinney Street. The Office of the City Secretary had even signed off on it with a proper Certificate of Cancellation, which I really appreciated for the transparency. I did spot a little clerical mix-up in the printed notice—it mentioned August 6, 2027, in one line—but since we were definitely in 2026, I just took it as a harmless typo on the form.
Instead of the usual flow of roll call, public comment, and committee debate, the morning was just me, the empty training rooms, and a chance to quietly verify the schedule. It’s one of those civic moments where showing up means trusting the posted notice, appreciating that the cancellation was clearly communicated well in advance, and leaving with a clean slate for the next meeting.
