Hey there! I wanted to share a quick recap of my experience showing up to the Civil Service Commission meeting on July 22, 2026. I actually made the trip over to City Hall East, expecting to settle into the Human Resources Training Room at 601 E. Hickory Street right around 1:00 p.m. But when I walked in, the room was completely empty, and the reason was right there on the wall: a formal cancellation notice.
It’s interesting how a municipal meeting can just pause like that. The notice clearly stated that the July 22 gathering was officially cancelled, and it had already been posted back on July 13th on the City of Denton’s official website (tx-denton.civicplus.com) as well as on the bulletin board over at City Hall on 215 E. McKinney Street. The Office of the City Secretary had even signed off on a formal Certificate of Cancellation, making sure the whole process was properly documented and public.
Instead of committee discussions or roll calls, the flow of the afternoon was just me reading through that one-page notice and appreciating how straightforward the administrative side of local government can be. There’s a certain quiet to a cancelled meeting—no debates, no last-minute agenda changes, just a clear, certified pause. It actually gave me a chance to step back and notice how the city keeps its public records transparent, even when a session doesn’t happen.
