I actually made the trip downtown, fully expecting to settle into Training Rooms 3, 4, and 5 at the Development Service Center on 401 N. Elm Street at 11:00 a.m. for a good dose of local planning and development updates. But when I arrived, the atmosphere was decidedly quiet—no rolling out of chairs, no opening remarks, just the calm of a room that had been called off. I checked the official agenda right there, and sure enough, the entire session was officially cancelled.
What stood out to me was how smoothly the City handled the communication. The cancellation notice had already been posted back on February 4, 2026, both on the City of Denton’s official website and right on the physical bulletin board at City Hall over on 215 E. McKinney Street. I actually walked over to City Hall just to see the printed notice for myself, and there it was, neatly dated and stamped with a Certificate of Cancellation formally verified by the Office of the City Secretary. It was printed on February 4th, so residents and stakeholders had plenty of advance notice to adjust their schedules.
It’s always a little bittersweet when a scheduled board meeting gets pulled, especially when you’re looking forward to seeing how the community’s economic development pieces are coming together. But I really appreciated that the City moved quickly to post the notice in both digital and physical formats. It kept things transparent and saved folks an unnecessary trip to the Development Service Center.
